If you are an administrator who deployed Office 365 ProPlus using Office Deployment Tool, you might have had the configuration.xml file configured with the network location to check for updates. However, if you later want to change the network location or if you didn’t configure this option during the deployment and now want to manage updates from a network share, this guide is for you.
To determine what’s your current update mode, open Registry Editor and navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration. You should see a screen similar to following.
If you can see a registry key called UpdateUrl and the UNC path of a network share, you’re already receiving updates from a network share. If this is the case, then you can continue to receive updates from the same location or change the location. If this doesn’t exists, you are not receiving updates from a network location. Following are steps to add or change the network path for your Office 365 ProPlus clients.
- Append the configuration XML file with
<Updates Enabled="TRUE" UpdatePath="\\Share\Folder"/>
(Replace \\Share\Folder\ with your network location.)
- In the machine which you want Office 365 ProPlus to update from a network share, run
setup.exe /configure configuration.xml
If above steps were successful, you will see a new registry key created or the value in it changed to your new network share similar to below screenshot.
